Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift

Neoclassicism Neoclassicism was a Western movement in almost every visual art form that draws inspiration from the classical art and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome. Neoclassical means the revival of the ancients. The Neoclassical age coincided with the Enlightenment in the eighteenth century and lasted into the early nineteenth century, competing alongside Romanticism. Neoclassical architecture, however, lasted from the eighteenth century through the twenty-first century. Neoclassicism originated in Rome, but quickly spread throughout all of Europe when European art students returned home from the Grand Tour in Italy with newfound knowledge of rediscovered Greco-Roman ideals. Neoclassicism soon spread to the Americas from Britain. Neoclassicism has many characteristics, but the most important three are imitating the ancients, perfectibility of humanity, and anti-gothic and baroque styles. The Neoclassical age was very influential for art and literature. One of the Neoclassical Age’s most important traits is the imitation of the ancients. What Is Gender Equality - 911 Words

What is gender equality? To my understanding, gender equality is both genders evenly alike as a whole. Now, wait. What does that mean? Evenly alike as a whole? Who even speaks like that in the real world? Apparently, I do. Let me put it this way, take everybody in the world and put them together as one person. Not man, nor woman. Which I know is hard to imagine, but just go with me here. Now think of all that they are capable of doing. Split it back up into everybody in the world. We are all capable of doing what that one person was able to do. We become more alike when we are put together as a whole. Still don t get it? That s okay; let me try explaining it differently. You cannot picture equality if you don t look at the whole picture. Think of a painting. In a painting, many things make up that picture. One stroke, then another. Each stroke different, but as a whole it is all alike. We all have our differences, but put together we are just one. As one of my teachers put it, I am y ou, and you are me. I am him, and he is me. We are all just one; even. That is when you can start to see equality. According to CNN women get paid 74 cent for each dollar that a man make, even though they’re doing the same exact job and they have the same exact talent and experience. Online Therapy free essay sample

Little by little the internet and technology are expanding to incorporate more aspects of our daily lives. The expansion is so vast, one can now do Just about anything online. On line advances has no doubt positively contributed to businesses, education, communication, and quality of life in general, but when does one draw the line? Healthcare is a very serious subject because it deals with peoples lives and well being. Potential problems that may arise from it are not monetary, like those involved with losing a Job or failing a school course, but deal with lives and peoples weakest and perhaps most uncontrollable side of life. Psychological disorders usually arise from events and sources not under the control of patients. Unlike purchasing the wrong stock at the wrong time or having an unsuccessful online business presentation, depression, addiction, phobias, and other psychological disorders are delicate matters that are not a result of bad decision making, however, much like every service the internet offers us, cyber psychology does have its advantages and disadvantages. Disadvantages and Solutions: The first glaring disadvantage is the loss of essential elements with the lack of face to face interactions. The fact that psychology is the study of behavior, it is imperative for a therapist to get a grasp on the patients complete behavior, which includes, but is not limited to, facial movements and body movements, tone of voice, posture, and appearance. To fully understand a client, a therapist must be able to be privvy to this side of the individuals personality to accurately diagnose and ultimately heal a problem or disorder. One way to solve this disadvantage could be for the therapist to request an initial face-to-face assessment that can then be followed by online treatments of various sorts. This enhances the screening process and leaves no room for misinterpretation or misdiagnosis that can arise from lack of personal interaction. Also, for cases or procedures involving video conferencing and webcam interactions, it is crutial for websites to continue to improve the video quality to avoid missing any words or movements that may be crucial to analyzing behaviors. Maybe once video conferencing is perfected, it will increase the validity of such therapeutic media and allow it to replace the need for an initial in person interaction. A second concern involved with web therapy is security. We are surrounded by warning signs oncerning various web securities, including scams, hacks, and phishing sites. In the past, we have seen many cases serious enough to make it to the news to increase awareness and warn people of the seriousness of certain situations. It is almost possible for hackers to invade most sites and this compromises the privacy of patients personal and diagnostic information. Also, confirming the validity of particular sites may be hard on some people since scam sites go into extreme measures to mimic credible sites. The fact that most on-line therapies require payment in advance, may seem tempting for people who make a living from online camming. Another potential leak in privacy may unintentionally arise from the clients themselves; the use of public computers or implying improper security features and practices to ones personal computer. To counteract security problems, websites are constantly working on maintain security and privacy. It is important for releasing financial or personal and emotional information. Psychologists are required to practice therapy in state(s) of which they are licensed for practice. Cyber therapy offers ways to go around that law. A patient, for example, may claim different residence to receive treatment from a particular therapist of agency. Also, since the world wide web spreads, well, worldwide, theres a chance that some of the sites are run internationally and this may give rise to cultural disconnect problems from misunderstanding situations, actions, and settings. Proper monitoring should be implemented on cyber therapy websites to avoid such breaches and complications. Advantages of Online Therapy: There are several advantages associates with online therapy. Time is something that seems to be becoming more scarce and harder to manage. Finding a service that can be molded around ones schedule, convenience, or from the privacy of ones ome is important to many people in todays fast paced way of life. Online therapy also offers a geographic advantage for people living in rural areas or people with transportation limitations. In addition, people with physical disabilities may now have an easier method of behavior therapy that does not interfere with their health issues. Finally, a very crucial advantage is financial. Online therapy makes it cheaper and thus easier to receive mental health therapy. Because of the lack of an office or facilities, transportation expenses, and the availability of different program levels to hoose from, therapy became an attainable thing and a cry for help that was heard by cyber space. The options of sending an email or having a telephone therapy session gives many benefits with the elimination of extended time charges and various office visit associated expenses. Websites Offering Online Therapy: The Online Therapy Institute is a website designated primarily for therapist seeking to introduce online therapy as an option to their practice. It offers intensive information about how to set up an online therapy site and what the rules and regulations are and general guidelines to follow to provide proper therapeutic echniques. It also assists therapists in the initial stages and provides a reference for any upcoming issues. E-Therapists Online provides services for patients seeking online therapy via e- mail, private chats, and phone counseling. It provides clear instructions on how to begin therapy and also price guideline. Payment is due prior to therapy. For example, an e-mail session costs $39. 95 and 4 e-mail sessions cost $149. 00. Telephone or chats cost $95. 00 for 60 minutes and $623. 00 for 7 60 minute chats or calls. Headworks is another website similar to e-therapists online. In addition to the ervices that e-therapists online provides, they offer free self-help information and customized services. Conclusion: Online therapy definitely has its advantages, but it should also be handled carefully. Not all cases of mental health should be able to be treated via cyber psychotherapy because some are much more complicated and need in person therapy. Once this service is solidified, this service will be more ideal for people who are in need of minor therapy, interaction with people, behavioral help, and guidelines in life but are unable to do face-to-face therapy for geographical or financial constrains.

Evil in Lord of the Flies Essay Example

Evil in Lord of the Flies Paper Evil is a description of something that causes harm, discomfort, repulsion and injury to another. The statement man produces evil as a bee produces honey Is relevant in the understanding of human nature. Bees produce honey as It is a natural Instinct and In that same way, humans produce evil. Humans only produce evil naturally and do not produce goodness. Lord of the Flies by William Gilding Is a clear representation of a group of boys regressing to their animal states because of the evil they produce naturally. Evil takes on many forms In this novel primarily though the need for power, the absence of rules and the Increasing distance from society. Through the uses of allegory, foreshadowing and symbolism Gilding states that evil Is a part of human nature as honey Is a part of a bees nature. One of the forms evil takes In this novel Is through power and corruption wealth Jack, contrasting with the leadership and direction Ralph provides. Jack and Ralph are the biggest boys on the island. Ralph is elected leader, which angers Jack. After being elected leader Ralph suggests in charge of the choir. They can be- what do you want them to be? Hunters- Ralph sets up to be a good leader as he takes into account the needs and desire of his group. Because of Jacks thirst for power, he starts persuading the others that Ralph is not a suitable leader so he can become Chief. He says, Who are you, anyway? Sitting there telling people what to do. You cant hunt, you cant sing- Im chief. I was chosen. Why should choosing make any difference? Ralph became a true leader by taking responsibility for the survival and rescue of the boys. Jack, on the other hand, offers fun and meat to get his power but is willing to harm or kill to keep it. Jacks desire for power develops into evil actions against the other boys. When Jack is in power, he leads the brutal slaughter of a pig and then Simon. He fosters rebellion. He throws a spear at Ralph with full intention and later holds a group unit to kill him. Jack is plainly committing evil to show his authority. Since evil is an act that harms, Jack brings out the evil within himself and also the evil within his tribe. Another form evil takes is in Roger because of the absence of rules. Roger was tempted to throw the stones but because of the rules In England, he was taught that harming others was wrong. Through the civilization, Roger was taught how to condone his evil. Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space around Henry Into which he dare not throw. Here Invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Through the absence of rules, Roger Is free to do what he wants. This means there wont be a Limitation of how he uses his evil. When Roger throws stones In the direction of the lotuses, he uses It to show he does not need to follow rules. As the novel progresses, Rorers evil Instincts take over and he forgets the existence of rules and proper behavior. The quote Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee, shows this. Right before Pigs death, he better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking up things? By killing Piggy, the last reminder of the need for rules and civilized behavior is lost. The constant motif of rock throwing foreshadows the death of Piggy. To kill someone is the highest degree of committing evil. Roger is an example of how the boys reverted to their animal origins since the primal instinct of evil lead him to kill. Due to the increasing distance o society, the boys lose their morals and their human sense of what is right and become savages. A symbol in the novel that represents the boys need to recreate their civilization is the conch shell. The conch shell symbolizes the rule of law and civilization. Its used to call assemblies and acts as a microphone that grants the right to speak to whomever holds it during assembly. The conch is the one thing of the island which brought order and respect to the boy holding it. The destruction of the conch represents the obliteration of any order on the island. Once the conch was destroyed, the island was in chaos. Jack who has now completely regressed into a savage animal began screaming wildly, the conch is gone. Viciously He hurled his spear at Ralph. This shows they have forgotten about civilization and have turned savage. Savagery is another form of evil and is brought out because of the distance from civilization. Man produces evil Just as a bee produces honey. The thirst for power, the absence of rules and the distance from civilization are the sparks that trigger the inner evil within humans. Gilding uses a political allegory to compare the ways in which Ralph and Jack rule. Gilding foreshadows the untimely death of Piggy through the recurring theme of throwing rocks and finally he uses the symbol of the conch shell to signify that the rules are broken and the boys have forgotten where they came from and who they are. Lord of the Flies is a novel that is relevant to us since it teaches us that every man is born with evil and that the only way it can be slightly suppressed is by the rules of society. When there are no rules, evil emerges from humans.

The Counterpane Essay Example

The Counterpane Essay Example The Counterpane Essay The Counterpane Essay Essay Topic: Moby Dick The Counterpane: An Objective Perspective on the Relationship Between Ishmael and Queequeg In this essay I will be discussing the queer (peculiar) relationship of two characters from the novel, Moby Dick by Herman Melville. The two characters of focus are Ishmael, the main protagonist, and Queequeg, a harpooner that Ishmael encounters. I will examine the growth of their relationship since their meeting and study their interactions with one another as the story progresses. I will interpret the significance of their behavior using examples of imagery and tone used in the novel. In Moby Dick, by Herman Melville, Ishmael and Queequeg form a strong bond that develops over the course of their adventure. Their relationship is more intense than the average friendship between men. Quotes such as hearts honeymoon and cozy, loving pair suggest a sense of matrimony between them. Ishmael is shown to care for Queequeg a great deal. He became fearful for Queequegs well-being Get the axe! For Gods sake, run for the doctor, some one, while I pry it open! It is also apparent that Ishmael greatly admires Queequeg. He seems to be very interested in his muscular physique, reveling his brawny shoulder. I believe that by analyzing the imagery and tone of the novel, their relationship can be depicted as more than a common friendship. Ishmael and Queequegs relationship is more affectionate and emotional than a common male friendship, this can be seen through specific uses of imagery. At first Ishmael was hesitant to share a bed with the mysterious harpooner, but after much explanation Ishmael found that Queequeg was actually polite and kind man. There is then much less tension as they shared a bed. Ishmael describes how Queequegs arm was thrown over him in the most loving and affectionate anner and how he could have been mistaken for his wife. Thus, then, in our hearts honeymoon, lay I and Queequeg, a cozy, loving pair. This imagery gives the impression of a sort of matrimony between the two of them that is uncommon in men, especially at their age.
